Samuel Friedrich De Bary, b. 12 Jan 1815 in Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany, chr. 1 Mar 1815 in Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany, d. 28 Dec 1898 in Summit, Union County, New Jersey, son of Christian De Bary & Sophie Christine Caroline Pilgrim. He married Julia Scherpenhausen on July 1, 1844 in Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. (His ancestors, Huguenot noblemen, emigrated from France in the seventeenth century, under Louis XIV., on account of the revocation of the edict of Nantes. One branch settled in Frankfort-on-the-Main, and the other in Basle, Switzerland.)
